We had a fantastic camping trip this last weekend.

OK, we can now admit that last weekend, Gavin's first camping trip in Napa, was merely a trial run for his first extended camping trip up to the high-Sierra's. For this trip, we drove up Hwy 4 to just east of Bear Valley and kayak-camped on Lake Utica (elevation 6800'). We packed all our equipment into and onto our kayaks, and took a short paddle away from the cars. We had a near-full moon at night and picture-perfect, high-alpine dry heat all day long. The lake was perfect for swimming, which was the adult's favorite activity, and we took along a bathtub-size blow-up pool for Gavin to sit in (he let us know the lake was a little too cold for him). Sorry, we didn't get any pictures of naked-nature-boy playing lake side.

Little Gavin woke us each morning before dawn (love that sunrise...)

And he got the perfect lake-side nursing at sunset just before bedtime.

What did Gavin do all day, you may ask?

His favorite activity, by far, was playing in his baby bungee bouncer.

We had to set up his bouncer wherever we went.

The beauty of the baby bungee bouncer is that it doubles as a swing, which was Gavin's second favorite activity.

This was the set-up, just don't call it a "dog run"...

Gavin's First Night Camping Out!

Our camp ground had a swimming pool. It was around 100F, so the pool was just the ticket to cool down & tire Gavin out for a nap. (Yes, he's naked, asleep & lovin' it that way). Posted by Picasa

He loves staring at moving water. The creek was warm enough that he didn't mind sticking his toes in (unlike the Bay at our house which is REAL cold!) Posted by Picasa

Here we are, the happy family on our first camping trip. Posted by Picasa

Somebody is starting to grow some hair!

(and it ain't his dad...)
Well, little Gavin had his 5 month birthday yesterday and all goes well here at the Turner Household. He is not quite sleeping thru the night, but he is learning to use his voice (previous post).Posted by Picasa

Baby Bungee Bouncer

Yep, here it is. The latest technology for keeping the little ones active. It's the baby bungee bouncer. And he loves it (for twenty minutes at a time - then he tires of it...)

Yes, now it was designed for the floor. But really, who wants to be down there when you can dance on the desk. It is designed for 5 month old (to 25lbs) so that they hang with just their feet barely touching. He is our little marionette. Posted by Picasa

Now, is this the face of a happy sailor or what?!

Weeeeee! I'm surrounded by beautiful women who are adoring me and I just had a great sail on the bay. Everyone up on deck got splashed while I had a great little meal below. And all that was after a couple of really good naps in the afternoon!

I mean really..., try and tell me I don't have it good!

------

For those of you who ask if we're being careful taking a 5 month old sailing - - well, he couldn't be in better hands. Every 1st & 3rd Wedneday of the summer months, we have a quick "beer can" sailing race out to South Hampton Shoals and back. Starting after work at about 6pm, we're in by 7:30. And then we we get to grill-your-own burgers back in the club with lots of other kids running around. It's always good fun.

------

Here are several additional shots for our sailor veiwers!

Notice all those boats BEHIND us on the downwind run.

It was a close race there a couple of times.

Look close Granddad Turner, there's some careful parents and a bald-headed baby on that boat too.

It was a little crowded up on deck, so Mom & Gavin did their drinking below.

Great job trimming Tiffany!

Great job holding on guys.

Great job driving Gary. And always the vigilant eye of Karl.

What a day - I was tuckered out. Thanks for holding me Julia.
